It was a UK company, Phytopharm, that identified the active ingredient in Hoodia Gordonii and named it P57, because it was the 57th discovery made by the company. It is P57 that has been identified as the active component in Hoodia.

Genuine Hoodia Gordonii can be difficult to identify – there are many suppliers, and not all stock the best quality and most effective Hoodia. To address this problem, Phytopharm developed a test to identify P57 and licensed it to only two other companies.

Although there are many analytical laboratories that can identify Hoodia, apart from Phytopharm, Alkemists Pharmaceuticals and Chromodex are the only other companies in the world that are licensed to test for, and able to recognize P57 in Hoodia Gordonii. This is why it is essential to make sure that your Hoodia product comes fully tested and passed for P57 content from either Alkemists or Chromodex.
